Science Connects has been successful in the bid to run the STEMNET Contract, in the West of Scotland, for STEM Ambassadors for the period 2011-2015. This will enable us to develop and expand the STEM Ambassador programme, and to work towards ensuring all schools in our area can benefit from a STEM Ambassador experience.

Launched with this new contract is the STEM Advisory Network which means we can continue to provide free impartial advice to schools on programmes, challenges, activities from STEM Providers, companies and organisations.

Science Connects will continue providing impartial advice on a wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) activities, helping schools to identify which opportunities can best inspire their young people in STEM.

Science Connects Can:

  • Help to identify STEM opportunities to inspire pupils
  • Put schools and organisations together to develop Engagement and Enrichment activities
  • Share best practice and help teachers to achieve Curriculum for Excellence outcomes
  • Provide STEM Ambassadors to enthuse pupils

    STEM Ambassadors Programme
     The STEM Ambassadors Programme is a UK wide programme, which has recruited more than 20,000 volunteers since its inception in 2002. It goes from strength to strength with over 1,000 Ambassadors enrolled in the West of Scotland.

    Ambassadors are volunteers from a wide range of disciplines eg forensic science, geology, mechanical engineering, parasitology, statistics etc who want to share their enthusiasm for their careers to encourage pupils to take an interest in STEM Subjects in later stages of education.

    Ambassadors can get involved in a number of diverse and innovative projects including:

  • Helping to provide support for activities such as Science and Engineering clubs
  • Helping with school competitions, events and awards
  • Offering mentoring and careers talks
  • Acting as a role model to young learners
  • Providing work-based placements for teachers and students

    The Ambassador Programme is a FREE resource to teachers to help enhance and enrich STEM related activities through links with the "real world".
