SCIENCE SHOWS (APPROX 40 MINS)

Develop successful learners through first hand observation of scientific ideas in our engaging science shows.
Expert presenters will amaze you with spectacular demonstrations.

Blood, Bile and Body Bits (P4-S2)
The human body is an amazing machine. Come along to find out about how diet and exercise can make a
difference to your body's function and over all well-being.
CfE: Science/ Biological Systems/ Body Systems and Cells

The Eco Show (P4-S2)
We all use, and waste, a great deal of energy. Where does all that energy come from? Help us to think
of new ways for Scotland to harness clean energy.
CfE: Science/ Planet Earth/ Biodiversity and Interdependence (Energy Sources and Sustainability &
Processes of the Planet); Topical Science

Professor Bedlam's Potion Class (P4-S2)
Be amazed in this explosive show crammed full of whizzes and bangs as Professor Bedlam delights you
with the science of chemical reactions.
CfE: Science/ Materials/ Properties and uses of Substances; Chemical Changes

Fantastic Forces (P4-S2)
Investigate Newton's three laws of motion using balloons, rockets, a bed of nails and other amazing demonstrations.
CfE: Planet Earth/ Forces, Electricity and Waves/ Forces

Who wants to be a Scientist? (S1-S2)
Experience our interactive show featuring spectacular demonstrations to engage, inform and enthuse.
We will highlight the importance of science and how biology, chemistry and physics link into careers.
CfE: Technologies/ Technological Developments in Society; Science/ Planet Earth/Energy Sources and
Sustainability; Biological Systems/ Body Systems and Cells; Forces, Electricity, and Waves/ Vibrations
and Waves; Materials/ Chemical Changes; Topical Science

Bang or No Bang (P4-S2)
Become a contestant in our very own game show as you explore the world of chance and uncertainty.
In this explosive show you'll weigh up the risks but the question is, will you go out with a Bang?
CfE: Numeracy and Mathematics/ Number, Money and Measure/ Fractions, Decimal Fractions and
Percentages; Information Handling/ Ideas of Chance and Uncertainty

WORKSHOPS (APPROX 40 MINS)

Develop your pupils' confidence in investigative skills and empower them to contribute effectively
through the exploration of scientific concepts in our high-tech laboratory.

CAR-azy Circuits (P3-P7)
The challenge is on work collaboratively to design, build and race your own electrically powered CAR-azy cars!
CfE: Science/ Forces, Electricity and Waves/ Electricity

It Wasnae Me! (P4-P7)
Developed with support from Scottish Fingerprint Services
Who kidnapped our resident skeleton Mr Bones? All our suspects have a motive but are claiming "it wasnae me!".
Learn how to analyse fingerprints and other crime scene evidence to figure out who committed the crime.
CfE: Science/ Materials/ Properties and Uses of Substances; Topical Science; Social Studies/ People in
Society, Economy and Business

Wind Works (P5-S2)
Discover how to harness the power of the wind as you build and test the energy output of your own wind
turbine in this collaborative, investigative workshop.
CfE: Science/ Planet Earth/ Energy Sources and Sustainability; Technologies/ Technological Developments
in Society

Outbreak! (S3-S6)
A new strain of a deadly virus has been detected and the threat of a pandemic is looming.
Working as a crisis control panel you will have to make difficult decisions based upon scientific evidence
to stem the spread.
CfE: Topical Science; (Advanced/Higher) Biology: Cell Biology. Also suitable for Media Studies,
Guidance, English and Business Studies.

The Polymerase Chain Reaction
(S6 Advanced Higher Biology)
Practising MRC Virologists will share their expertise and give a genuine insight into the world of work
as students use cutting edge equipment to diagnose virus infections.Students will be guided through the
process of using the polymerase chain reaction and other molecular biology techniques.
Participants will also be encouraged to discuss the ethics of recent advances in DNA technology.
CfE: Advanced Higher Biology: Nucleic Acids; Applications of DNA technology; Practical abilities.
Whole day activity. £12 per pupil.

MINI ACTIVITIES (APPROX 30 MINUTES)

Mini activities offer a challenging, exciting and motivating immersion into the world of science for early years.

Minibeasts Sorted! (P1-P3)
Fascinated by invertebrates? Learn more about our creepy-crawly companions when you come face-to-face
with our giant cockroaches and wiggly worms and explore the features that help us group them using our
big interactive sorting key.
CfE: Science/ Planet Earth/ Biodiversity and Interdependence

Know Your Gnashers (P2-P4)
Investigate the importance of our teeth; the different tooth types and their special roles then compare
ours with those of our animal friends!
CfE: Life and Cells: keeping my body healthy

Sniff, Look and Listen (P1-P3)
Make sense of your senses through a range of exciting investigative activities including a sensational
smell trail and a touchy feely task!
CfE: Science/ Biological Systems/ Body Systems and Cells. Download Nina and the Neurons trail to
follow during your visit.

IMAX 3D FILMS (APPROX 45 MINUTES)

Develop interest in science through our informative and immersive 3D IMAX films.

Space Station 3D CERT: U (P4 - S6)
Blast off into space with astronauts and cosmonauts to rendezvous with their new home at the
International Space Station. Witness space walking, zero gravity, and feats of engineering.
Narrated by Tom Cruise.
CfE: Science/ Planet Earth/ Space; Standard Grade Physics

Under the Sea 3D CERT: PG
Under the Sea 3D, narrated by Jim Carrey, transports you to the depths of the ocean and offers a unique
opportunity to swim with the fascinating animals found below.
